How To Write An Excellent Juvenile Delinquency Research Paper

Juvenile Delinquency
Many factors contribute to crime and delinquency among the youth. In a bid to reduce these incidences, there have been studies that have been carried out to determine the cause of this problem. Social economic and cultural factors have been sidelined to be the cause of having intense and severe juvenile offences. Among the many factors that have been determined to be the cause of these behaviors, education has been considered a contributing factor. Lack of success in the education system has been considered to have an important role to play in causing the youth to engage in crime.
According to Siegel (2007), children who do poorly in school may lack educational motivation in them. They may in turn feel alienated and are likely to engage in criminal acts. The problem is even worse for the ones that fail in school; they are likely to cause offence more frequently than those who succeed. Such youth are likely to commit more serious crime and violent offences and persist in crime even in adulthood. Some school dropouts are usually caused by lack of motivation in their education due to poor performance among the students. Dropouts are mostly common among the minority communities in the United States. Research findings in the last two decades have shown that many school dropouts, especially the ones that are as a result of being expelled are more/likely to be involved in criminal activities (Siegel, 2007). Among women, it is also notable that lack of education results to a nature of the criminal behavior. Combining low scholastic abilities with other adverse social factors operating in an individual, results to a higher likelihood of having a high incidence of crime. The feeling of inferiority in the standard of the offenders’ educational achievements also contributes to a high crime behavior among women (Chitkara, 2001).
According to Kim (2008), the youth may feel psychological pressures that are brought about by educational system and school environment, and lack means of releasing these stresses. If the psychological stresses accumulate for a considerable amount of time, it may lead to the youth being involved in deviant behaviors like drinking and smoking. The resultant of this is the youth getting involved in criminal activities as studies have shown that there is a connection between involvement in drugs and crime. Other youth might indulge in computer games and movies that show actions of violence and with time, the youth might be hooked up to these scenes they watch and indirectly transpire them to get involved in violent behaviors (Kim, 2008).
Education set up may also have a part to play when it comes to the issue of violence and crime amongst the youth. Some education systems are such that they portray that education excellence is the only thing that leads to success in life. When some of the youth are not gifted in the field of education they feel left out, in turn they engage themselves in violence since to them it is the only option they think have in life. The trend of violence for this youth may extend to their adult life. An example of such a system is found in Korea. Education is much treasured by these people as they belief that excellence in education leads to so many good things in life. Some of the parents even move their children to other countries in search of good education. Also notable about this society is that the salaries of the people who are graduates of college are twice the salaries given to high school graduates (Kim, 2008).
There are also school delinquent groups that involve themselves in school violence and school bullying. School has also being likened with having a strong relationship with problem behavior among the youth. Though there are no studies that reveal that there is a no connection between developments of problematic behavior problem with schools there is certainly a relationship between poor school functioning and behavior problems. Studies have further shown that difficulty in schools is one of he best predictors to delinquency in American society. Delinquency is usually common with student with below average grades, the same students are said to have a hostile altitude to other students as well as teachers. In turn, some of these youth feel alienated by the system and tend not to perform well. In some cases the may result to school drop out or if not they may achieve unpleasant grades that are not competitive in the system. Due to fewer options in life as a result of lack of academic dominance some of tem may result to crime or continue with their delinquent behaviors (Burfeind, 2010).
To reduce the problems that are been experienced in our society especially the delinquent behaviors among a lot needs to be done. Focus should especially be directed in our schooling system to make it comfortable for our youth. Such systems that only focus on education dominance should be discouraged. Life has so many options available to the youth and all they need to do is exploit them. The current society offers alternatives that also ensure success in the youth lives. To start with there are many talents that the youth have in their disposal. Games are such talents that the youth have in their disposal. Many athletes have achieved so much in their lives by exploiting some of their talents which are not necessarily educational ones. It is therefore necessary to include other types of learning in schools so as to ensure that the youth tat are gifted in other areas apart from education remain in the system and do not dropout or fell in lack of options. Such an action will make sure that delinquent behaviors among the youth are at the minimum level (Regoli, 2009).
Educational programs should also be instrumental in developing programs that help young people to have positive self appraisal, deal with the conflict the engage in life, and also control their aggression. The education programs should be such that they control the gang glamour that may at times be shown by the media and focus on helping the youth to find alternatives to illegal behaviors. The programs should also work in a way that they develop both social and cognitive skills that are necessary to avoid conflicts as well as control aggression. Children mostly who are raised in strong families and quality schools usually acquire these skills in the course of their learning (Burfeind, 2010).
The school system should also define a system of controlling bullying among the students. There should be put such measures that are made to ensure that there is protecting of students especially the newly enrolled since they face the highest likelihood of being involve in bullying activities with other students in schools. It is notable that the cause of delinquent behaviors does not fall on schools alone. Other causes should also be controlled to minimize this problem. Engaging the youth in recreation and youth development activities can be a step ahead towards decreasing the rate of crime among the youth. Accessibility to the youth of these programs should also be considered as it is of importance to have them if they can not be accessed by the youth. A research by Columbia on university in New York found out that having clubs for both bys and girls in the housing project reduces the likelihood of committing crime by 13%. The solution has also been reported to work in United Kingdom where an organized youth group has lead to a decrease in delinquent behavior. The community can also be a great player in the reduction of delinquent behavior. Though engaging the youth in constructive programs the society will ensure that the youth are productive and have minimal chance of getting involved in delinquent behaviors. The idea of the young people involvement in the society has been of benefit to the young people. Young people are usually full of ideas and the commonality can benefit through having young people contributing to the society (Wasserman, 2003). For society to achieve the objective of minimizing delinquent behavior among the youth, they may need to ensure that the youth are also integrated in social service agencies or organizations like boys’ scouts, girl guides, or even independent clubs for both boys and girls. Other centers that can also be of help in this are community centers, and local government community centers.
